The last few weeks of my trip were pretty good. I spent a few days in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Visited Pinehurst #2 and #8. There are eight courses that date back to 1895. Donald Ross was the architect of Pinehurst courses and he was also considered the father of American golf course architecture. Pinehurst #2 has held many famous tournaments most recently the 2005 US Open. I also had a few extra days and spent some time at other area courses in the Pinehurst area.
My name is Eric Wittmer and I just graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Landscape Architecture. I got into this area of study because I want to pursue a career as a golf course architect. The U of I Department of Landscape Architecture offers some great travel opportunities. One of my major goals I had over the years was to travel and study golf courses. I applied for the George and Dorothy Fiel Traveling Fellowship offered within the department and received it. My topic of study is Environmentally Friendly Golf Courses and this blog is dedicated to my travel. Hope you all enjoy.
